Boyscout Tree Trail

Two days after enjoying Stout Grove, we were ready for a more lengthy hiking adventure featuring the Redwoods. My trusty app AllTrails and several local printed guides highly recommended Fern Falls via Boyscout Tree Trail (6.3 miles). Situated just next door practically to Stout Grove, the area can usually be accessed easily from either the east or west along Howland Hill Road. But due to road work, we chose the approach from the east and managed to drive right up to the trail head. That was good because the family was kinda worn out with this hike.

The waterfalls was less than impressive, especially used to the Columbia River Gorge, but was a nice lunch stop and exploring up above the falls was fun (there’s a second falls!!!). The boyscout tree is actually two trees merged into one and is just a steep very short 1-minute climb off the main trail.
